Questions and answers
Is Thornvale free?
Yes. Thornvale is free to play in your browser.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Thornvale runs in your web browser. Open thornvaleonline.com/play and you're in.
Which browsers and devices work?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Thornvale is made for a computer with a keyboard and mouse, so that's where it plays best.
When does Thornvale open?
The grand opening is on 1 January 2027 at midnight UK time. The world is already open for early play, and accounts and character names made now carry over to launch.
How many characters can I have?
Up to 5 characters per account.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. Online characters are saved on the server every 30 seconds and when you log out. Your level, items, gold, bank, depot and quests are kept through every update to the game.
Characters made with Play offline are different: they're saved only in that browser on that computer.
The game takes a minute to load. Is it broken?
Probably not. When nobody has played for a while the server goes to sleep, and the first visit wakes it up. That can take up to about a minute. After that it's quick.
Can other players attack me?
Yes, PvP is on in the online world, but never inside protection zones such as temples and depots. Secure mode (on by default) stops you from attacking others by accident, and players who kill without reason get skulls and harsher penalties. See the guide.
I forgot my password.
On the sign-in screen choose Forgot password? and enter your email. We'll send you a link to set a new one. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
Can I change my character's name?
There's no rename option in the game yet. If you need a change, email us and we'll take a look.
I found a bug or someone is breaking the rules.
Email support@thornvaleonline.com with your character name, what happened and roughly when.
Is Thornvale related to other games?
Thornvale is inspired by classic top-down online RPGs, but everything in it is original: the world, its towns, characters, art and code.
